Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek with a wonderful guide: Tulasi
Ghorepani(Poonhill-3210m)-Ghandruk trekking in Nepal
Four of us, friends from college days, came to Nepal for a teahouse trek. We booked with Tulasi after reading his reviews online, and he lived up to our expectations and more. We only had to take care of our own travel insurance, every other aspect of our trek was taken care of very capably by Tulasi. He arranged for our permits for the trek well in advance, hired porters and booked excellent accommodation. He was also there to receive us at the airport in spite of our flight being delayed by several hours. He explained the trek route to us the evening before, kept a flexible itinerary for our comfort, and gave us general guidelines on what to expect. He took personal interest in the porters welfare, making sure we gave them a manageable load to carry and taking care of their insurance and needs. During the trek, he made sure that all of us were well looked after and kept up our spirits up with his unfailing good humour. He also pointed out several birds on the trail, being a bird watcher himself. I am specially grateful to him, as I had a bad fall on the third day of the trek, and as I was not too fit to begin with, I found it hard going thereafter. He was there to help and encourage me every step of the way. Thanks to him and our wonderful and helpful porters Rudra Gurung and Harka Man Gurung, we had a memorable and fun trip. Thank you Tulasi! Warm regards, Seema, Poonam, Ritu and Urvashi
Tulasi was the perfect guide for this trip. A very pleasant, well-acquainted man of the mountain, gladly answered all our questions, helped us with everything we needed. I highly recommend him! Oliver from Romania
Perfect guide, nice person In November 2017, we made a 12-day walking trip through Mustang, Nepal with Tulasi as a guide. Tulasi speaks English well, knows the area and knows where the most beautiful places and hiking trails are. Also important: Tulasi has humor, makes nice conversations and is very helpful when ordering and serving meals (Tulasi often brings the meals himself!). Furthermore, Tulasi has earned money for us. It was necessary for us twice to take a private jeep and in both cases Tulasi asked all travelers in the neighborhood whether they wanted to join us in our private jeep. At the end, both times our jeep was fully booked, so we saved USD 200 per person. So all in all it is therefore recommended to book Tulasi as a guide! Marcel and Rudd from Netherland
Here is my recommendation for Tulasi Ram Paudel 2017 Nov, My husband and I, and another couple used Tulasi to guide us for 9 days to Poon Hill and Annapurna Base Camp November 2017. I honestly cannot imagine a better guide. He was wonderful. Up before us every morning, making sure we got our breakfast on time, double checking our gear. On the trail he kept us all safe and happy. He worked hard always to negotiate the best possible rooms for the night ahead. Having guided here for 17 years he personally knew all the tea house owners and was clearly respected and welcomed by them. I appreciated his style of guiding, always happy to engage in conversation, point out birds, plants, points of interest, but never intruded when we wanted quiet time. He is honest, caring, patient, and thoughtful. We observed a number of guides that seemed inexperienced, some that appeared pushy and disrespectful. One that I think was drunk half the time. We were so happy we found Tulasi on this website! He works on his own, not for an agency like most guides, so you are not paying extra for a middleman. His fees were extremely fair. Tulasi lives in Pokhara, but I know he often leads treks to other areas, Everest and Mustang. You might consider asking him which trek is best for you based on the time of year and your needs and expectations. Please check with him at[email protected]

Wonderful guide, incredible trip around the Annapurna circuit
Tulasi was a wonderful guide! He has a seemingly endless knowledge of the mountains and the flora and fauna around. He was also very good fun to travel with. We ate and stayed in such nice places and everything was very well organised. I was unsure whether to take a guide but am so glad we did. I couldn’t recommend him any more highly! Lucas from UK

Upper mustang trek- 26 June - 8 July 2016.
Me and my wife went trekking in the Upper Mustang region this June. Before traveling to Nepal we contacted Tulasi Ram Paudel (http://trekguidenepal.weebly.com and www.trkewithguide.blogspot.com) by email, and we always got quick responses and detailed information about the trekking. Tulasi is independent guide with license for Upper Mustang, he knows pretty well this region.
After our arrival in Pokhara, Tulasi picked us up in the airport, arranged all the permits and because of cancelled flight to Jomsom he arranged for us replacement transport by car. The stay in Upper Mustang was amazing, we have a nice weather and we really enjoyed a great time up there. He always suggested us to take the best path, so we could see fascinating sceneries, the most interesting spots, enchanting villages, local culture and really open and friendly local people.
Overall, it was a wonderful experience that we strongly recommend. If we go trekking in Nepal again we will definitely contact Tulasi, because of his experience and approach.

Langtang & Gosaikunda Treks - April 2015
Before we arrived in Nepal, Tulasi arranged our permits and booked our places on the local bus for which we made a transfer payment via Western Union.
On our arrival in Kathmandu Tulasi was waiting for us at our hotel with his big friendly smile. We were nervous about spending 2 weeks with someone who we had never met before but immediately felt at ease with him as he came across so friendly and trustworthy. He ran through the details of the arrangements for the bus the following day & took our payment for the trek as he needed to convert this into NRP. He also kindly exchanged our spending money for us as he was able to get us a better rate than the money lenders on the street.
The following morning he arrived nice and early with the porter, Dorje, and took us by taxi to the bus station. After a bumpy 9 hours on the zigzags mountain roads we arrived at the hotel in Syabrubesi ready to start our trek in the morning.
On the trek Tulasi always allowed us to set the pace, we regularly stopped to take photographs and never felt hurried. He seemed to sense when we were tired or struggling and knew how to make us laugh and keep our spirits up. He has an amazing eye for wildlife, often pointing out animals and birds that we would never have spotted by ourselves.
Our itinerary was kept flexible to allow for changes in the weather and our fitness levels. He was always in touch with the weather and the conditions of the trails and we felt completely safe knowing that he was so knowledgeable and well prepared.
All of our lodges were booked a day in advanced and so we were always guaranteed a room to ourselves. We were able to decide the start time each day and we always went for an early start of around 7.30am. This meant that we had completed the majority of the day’s trek before the sun got too hot and then had time to sit around and enjoy the afternoon. We also arrived at the lodges before the other guests and so were first in the shower.
Tulasi took our evening meal and breakfast orders and always made sure that the food was properly prepared and arrived on time. Even though meals were included in the price, he always made sure that we ate and drank plenty, sometimes too much!
At the end of the trek he telephoned our hotel and helped to make the arrangements for the remainder of our stay. He even arranged the mountain flight and picked up the tickets for us.
Tulasi is a very sociable person, very easy to get along with and has a great sense of humour. He gets on very well with all the lodge owners and appears to be very well liked by everyone. We can recommend him enough. We went to Nepal for the stunning scenery and have come away with lots of good memories and our new friend, Tulasi.

I did a ten day trek in Restricted area of Upper Mustang with Tulasi. Because of being Restricted you need a special permit which was all taken care of by Tulasi, all I had to do was show up. I was feeling a little apprehensive about spending ten days with someone I just met but Tulasi proved to be very professional, knowledgeable, trustworthy and has a great sense of humor.
Tulasi is a friendly and warm man who always has a smile and a great attitude. He is very knowledge about the area and if he did not know the answer to my many questions, it would not be long before he did. He is known and respected by other Guides/Porters as well as the many Tea & Guest Houses we visited or stayed during our ten day trek. I am grateful of the rapport that Tulasi has with the Guest Houses as we were able to have tea and chat with the owners/families which provided for a nice intimidate look into Nepali hospitality.
He has great communication skills and speaks freely about the his country, culture and anything that you would like to know or discuss. After our dinner we would go over the itinerary for the next day; look over the map, point out the high pass(es), grade of the trek and show the communities where we could stop for tea/lunch and finally how long it would take us to reach Guest House. The days were always comfortable with a good walking pace and rest stops, and some wonderful conversations. There were times that we just walked, each in our own inward journey, taking time for reflection and enjoying the quiet silence around us.
Tulasi is very attentive to the needs of his clients and made my trek a very comfortable and enjoyable one. I have walked away with a friend and many great memories of my time in Upper Mustang. He offers a wide variety of treks that can be customized to your needs; trekking remote areas, camping and the well trotted trail of Annapurna circuit and many more.

This is a very good trek we spent with Tulasi, organized by himself(independent trekking guide in Nepal) Everything went perfectly. This is an advantage to have a guide who knows the entire trek, the scenery as we crossed and especially the people, with a home always warmly. The rhytme was adapted depending on the day and our desires. We spent more than a nice time and it'll be a pleasure for us all leave for a longer trek.

“When we first met Tulasi in Pokhara to start our Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) Trek, we did not know who he was and what to expect of him as a guide. In the next few days, we found out that Tulasi is a very good and experienced guide to trek with. He knows a lot about the flora, fauna, and wildlife of the area as well as knowing most owners of Tea Houses along the way. Tulasi’s knowledge and familiarity of the area and people gave us comfort that we were dealing with a guide that a) knew his stuff from years of experience and b) could take care of us in an emergency since we had never trekked before. We thank him for making us a priority as we always got our rooms and food and almost anything we asked for faster and more affordable than compared to other trekkers in the same situation on the same trek. This is a direct result of his great reputation and having been given great respect from the local people and tea house owners.
Tulasi is a family man (wife and one very young daughter) with a college degree (very uncommon for guides!) and has a home in Pokhara. This makes booking any ABC treks with him very easy and affordable as almost all ABC treks start in Pokhara. He is also very knowledgeable about EBC and the treks around Everest so getting him to come to Kathmandu from Pokhara is very affordable and convenient for any treks to the Everest region.
Overall, we were very pleased with Tulasi. He is very conversant in English. a good communicator, and flexible to your wishes with the trek’s scheduling. You will not regret getting Tulasi as your guide for your Nepal Trekking. He made our trek very memorable and exciting and we recommend him to all our friends and family who want an amazing trek in Nepal. If you need to ask some more about him,

We`ve had a wonderful holiday time for a month to do travels in Nepal.
We made the plan to do trekking with the recommended guide Tulasi.
He took us for a twenty five days trek up to Tilicho Lake and Throng-La pass (round Annapurna).
The trek to Annapurna round and Tilicho Lake trek were fantastic with our guide Tulasi. He was fully insured, trained, excellent, trustworthy, helpful. He has a wealth of knowledge regarding the geography, different cultures, traditions, wild life and about the Himalayan region.
He is physically fit, experienced and responsible to the client in respect to safety, health care, team spirit, the conservation of the landscape, understands rules and regulations in respect to effective management and environmental safe guards. He is professional in figuring a trek to suit our interests . We had our Conrad Stein book and lonely planet book – but no need to use it once, because he knows all the places with good food and the lodges on the way were lovely.
He has a great sense of humour and can make you laugh even after a hard day of trekking!!!
He is very well respected and gets along very good with the other guides, porters and lodge owners. We were very happy to make this Himalayan experience with him and he became more a real good friend than being “only” a guide. We already miss him!
He can do many kinds of organized treks as tea house trek, guide, porter services, camping trek. Especially in the Annapurna region such as Tilicho Lake trek, Nar-phu trek, Mardi Himal trek, Throng -La pass, Annapurna Base Camp and Dolpo trek, etc.
Book him! You won’t regret your decision!
Trekking Guide Tulasi Ram Paudel is also recomended by< Pro. Gentil de Faria from Brasil:(2008)
Reading the page on recommended trekking guides – www.nepal-die.de – I chose five names and wrote to each of them. I got three answers and one of them was from Tulasi. Immediately I decided to take him as my guide. From the very beginning I found him to be very friendly and helpful. He helped me to organize my trip to Nepal, especially to Annapurna Circuit. He took care of everything, park permits, and all kind of information I need, such as what to take along, what to buy, to rent, etc.
He wrote to me frequently before my embarking on that wonderful journey with him. He proved to be so confident that I did not hesitate to fix an appointment with him right in Besisahar, very far from São Paulo, Brazil.
After a quite exotic trip by bus from Kathmandu to Besisahar, I was delighted to see his smiling face asking me if I were from Brazil. The date was November 5, 2008. From that moment we stayed 18 days together. I took advantage of his companionship and made an extension of my stay to Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha. We said good-bye for the last time on my way to Chitwan National Park, recommended by him.
I was amazed by his deep knowledge of the whole Annapurna circuit. He knows the region, all the lodges, lodges owners, and has an excellent relationship with other porter guides. Seeing them talking together I realized that he was a leader and respected by his friends.
We had marvelous pleasant moments, and I took advantage of his solid cultural background, which includes historical, geographical, cultural facets. I profited from his ability to teach me Nepali, a language I had tried to learn by myself before leaving Brazil.
Although still in physical good shape, I am a sixty-year old man, professor of Comparative Literature. Tulasi knew how to keep me safe and took good care of me in the simplest details. After the 12th day of trekking, I was extremely exhausted in Thorung Phedi. I could barely move my feet up to climax of our trekking: Thorung La. Tulasi took all my stuff on his shoulders, and so I could finally reach the top of the mountain.
He is a very talkative and easygoing guy. We talked about everything: our families (he had a daughter of only one month!), religion, politics, cultural shock, etc. He is totally honest, respectful, courteous, patient and very kind, besides being simple and a humble human creature. He returned to me all small coins of change.
In Pokhara, where he lives, he invited me to dinner with him in his humble house. Wow, the chicken was delicious (mitho cha!).
Tulasi speaks very good English, much above the average. He is well educated and has a college degree. It is impressive that he is only a trekking guide in that far remote land

In april 2009 we made our first trip to Nepal, but it will certainly not be our last !!
The first trekking we did was a bit disappointing, because my friend got so sick that we had to terminate our trek in an early stage.
But we gave it another go, this time with Tulasi Ram Paudel as our guide. The best decision ever. Tulasi made sure we had a wonderfull experience.
We only did a 8 days trek in the Jomsom area, but we will certainly come back in a few years en take on a longer trail, with Tulasi as our guide if possible.
Tulasi has a great sense of humour, he is energetic, intelligent, he knows a lot about the area and always did the extra mile for us. He's a confident en pleasurable guide to be with.
Almost every evening we had interesting and long talks about Nepal: the daily life, religion, politics. During the day Tulasi took us of the beaten tracks, pointed out interesting sights, took us to monastry's and temples. He deserves to earn a good living and we recommand him to everyone who can appreciate a guide that gives you an insight in the Nepali lifestyle while enjoying Nepal's nature by foot
With best regards, Audrey Claes and Gijs van Steenis, The Netherlands
Janet Wong wrote in 2011 about independent trekking guide in Nepal
If mountains are landmark of Nepal, then Tulasi is certainly the icon of the mountains in Nepal.
We got in touch with Tulasi & other guides through this web page. We confidently chose Tulasi because he convinced us with his simple yet detailed & comprehensive reply.
We spent a total of 9 days with him in April 2011. We covered the Panchasse trek, a non-commercialized trek recommended by Tulasi after he understood what we like to see in the trek.
Tulasi is honest, well-mannered, humble, reliable, genuine, street smart, jovial, patient, humorous & speaks fluent in English. Because he is highly responsible & takes his work seriously , makes him a good listener, observant & sensitive to our needs & preferences. He is certainly well trained, physically fit, knowledgeable in his field of expertise including familiarity of the trek routes, first aid, strict with the dos and don't, knows fauna & flora, weather & good understanding of Nepali culture and tribes. He was a good translator between locals & us. Tulasi was also very accommodating & flexible to the changes we made along our way & at the same time, well balance as a prudent trekking guide.
Tulasi is certainly an excellent logistics organizer. Besides organizing our flights to/from Kathmandu/Pokhara, he took us to very unique, lovely, charming & hospitable teahouses. He offers very personalized service. He made good effort in details just to ensure we were comfortable especially in the less equipped teahouses (because it was a non-commercialized trek) eg. he not only boiled water for our hot shower, he carried the buckets of boiled water to distant bathroom even during heavy downpours (no shelter). He even made sure we gone for shower before the water turn cold ! Very often, you find him landing in the kitchen preparing our meals & even cooked for us despite meals were paid for together with accommodation. He personally carried with him, fruits (he could have chose other stuffs which were light weight) during our treks so that we could have them on days we would not reached teahouses for lunch. He always utilized his resources and tapped on his network eg. we were linked-up to enjoy competitive exchange rates.
What touched me most was, during our stay in one of the village teahouse, there was no menu for meals.
Instead of verbally name a few, he delivered us a Tulasi-made-menu So that we could refer when we had to order for one (yes, just ONE) breakfast !! It may seem trivial but one could tell from here, he is a guy who is, not only willing to take extra mile for his guests but he uses his heart to service his guests.
My observation revealed he always have his trekkers' interest as priority & NEVER his. Through some incidents, I also concluded Tulasi is not a calculative person.
Tulasi is certainly no ordinary guide. He only claimed his passion for trekking. But, if you read his eyes, they revealed his love for mountain, his appreciation & admiration to beauty of nature. I was amazed to notice during our trek, how the landscapes still appealed, charmed & attracted him even after his 12 years as a trekking guide.
I will highly recommend Tulasi to anyone who has read this. Unfortunately, i can't narrate every event that happened to testify how outstanding Tulasi was. However, i will like to stress, Tulasi is certainly value for money & he really made me feel he was a sherpherd taking good care of his herds (trekkers).
It was Tulasi that made my first Himalayan experience a unique & memorable one & i do not rule out i'll soon make another trip, perhaps just to meet up with this good trekking companion.
I'll be most willing if you like to write to me with regards to Tulasi. i can be reached at [email protected] or i'm sure, Tulasi will be most delighted to receive inquiry who plans to visit Nepal or request for customs-make trek that will suit you. His email is at [email protected]
By the way, Tulasi has two commonly repeated phrase which will make you laugh & forget the aching muscles or fatigue body even after a long, tedious & tiring trek. Will keep you in suspense & find out for yourself when you meet him !

Just returned from the jomsom trek with guide Tulasi. We started from Nayapul , walked to Muktinath and flew back to pokhara. This was an absolutely spectacular trek with a wonderful diversity of landscapes. Tulasi, was a great guide and I appreciate that we went alone at my space-sometimes fast and sometime slow . It was very helpful to have him as my guide to speak nepali and teach nepali languages me some new words as well. The food and lodges alone the way were lovely.Tulasi has a great sense of humor and can make you laugh even after a long hard day of trekking !!!!!! Tulasi is very well respected along the trail by other guides and lodge owners and I was happy to have had this tremendous Himalayan experience with him with jomsom/Muktinath trek.
